Burgundy Maine Blueberry

Burgundy Maine Blueberry

Vaccinium agustifolium 'Burgundy'

This tidy cutie produces small, deliciously tart fruit full of old-fashioned blueberry flavor. New growth is coppery burgundy, unshaded foliage retains color, fall color deepens to more burgundy with copper overtones. Like Brunswick Maine, Burgundy Maine makes a great and productive creeping groundcover.

This northern lowbush variety grows vigorously using rhizomes to create an irregular mat, even in notoriously cold climates. Shearing the top 2/3 of growth every 3rd year can stimulate lots of productive new growth and blooming. Reliably self-fertile but will produce more with a different variety as a pollinizer. Prefers acidic soils with a ph between 4-5, lots of organic matter on top and gravel below, and full to part sun. 1000+ chill hours.

Cold Hardy to USDA Zone: 3

Mature Height:  1'-2' x 2'-3'

Sun: Full Sun

Ripening Time: Midseason/August

Pollination: Partially Self Fertile
